"Keeping
your Web site Fresh!"
What is a Web site? If you answered a "marketing tool" you'd
be correct. Do you update your marketing materials? How bout
your Web site?
At some point you went to the time, expense and trouble to
build, or have built, your company Web site. Great! Now when
was the last time you updated it? And I don't mean just the content.
How old it your design?
- Does it reflect your business today?
- Does it provide valuable content to visitors to entice them
to do business with your company?
- Do you change the look of your Web site occasionally and
offer new content to keep visitors coming back?
So often people build Web sites because they think they should
have one, but once it's "up" they think they are done
with it. Nothing could be further from the truth. For some reason
Web sites tend to be the most out of date marketing tool for
many companies. Maybe it's the old, out of site out of mind syndrome.
Tip: make your Web site your "Home page" so
you see it everyday. Maybe this will keep this valuable marketing
tool of yours in the forefront of your mind.
Each day more and more people on logging on to the Internet,
from both home and work.
- Do you track your Web site traffic statistics to see how
many visitors your Web site is getting?
- When was the last time you updated your Meta Tags and had
your site submitted to the search engines?
If your site needs regular content updates, and you don't want
to pay your web designer to update it for you consider adding
a Content Management System also known as CMS.
With CMS, content is stored in a database away from the site's
templates, which makes it impossible to destroy the design structure
of the site when editing.
CMS systems allow anyone to edit his or her Web site, regardless
of technical skill level. Pages can be added or changed easily
without knowing any
intricate coding. Many Web sites that use CMS resemble a portal
design and a text editor similar to Word so you can add headings
and bold text, etc. updates to the Web site.
Don't let your Web site die on the virtual vine. Make it work
for you. Budget Web site maintenance in your marketing plan.
Then do it! Find ways to update the content on your site on a
regular basis. Add your company's newsletter to your Web site.
Change the look a bit. Add new press releases.
Remember - Keep it fresh!
