What is a Content management system or CMS? CMS is a system that allows you to organize your data and lets your organization to share, use, retrieve or search the data.

This is a hot buzz word these days as so many people want to update their site themselves, easily, quickly and often. So how can they do that if their not a web diva?

A CMS is a software on the web server that helps in organizing and facilitating creation of documents and content. This is software installed on the web hosts server that is completely database driven.

A Content management system consists of two parts - the "front-end" the public views and the "back-end" where the site owner or administrator (without the knowledge of HTML) can manage, create, remove or modify the content from a web site without involving the webmaster. All by logging onto a password protected Control Panel! You feel like you are updating the "web-site" because it's instant, but you're actually making changes to the database that the web pages feed from.

Most of the CMS systems have Web based publishing, revision control, format management along with search, indexing and retrieval of content.

The web site administrator can also create content that is viewable by the public, or only select groups that have to "register" and log in to view these pages or sections of the site.

The revision control helps in updating the content to a new or an old version along with tracking changes made by others in the files. CMS system also helps in indexing, retrieval and search of content. The user can search the data available with the help of keywords, the CMS system helps in retrieving the data.

If you want to use a CMS system for the effective management of your web sites, Bracewell Web Works can provide you with a fantastic Content management system. Our CMS system is based on open source software so you still own your site.
