The Web Design Process

Design consultation
We start the process with either a phone consultation or meeting and have you fill out our questionnaire. This form gathers information about your company, services, audience, purpose, site goals and more. We use this information to help us deliver an accurate quote and understand your design needs.

Proposals and Estimates
After reviewing your questionnaire we will send you a formal, detailed proposal as well as a contract. In order to schedule your project we require a 50% retainer and a signed contract and proposal.

Proposals are formulated by considering all the work involved as well as the complexity of that work.

The complexity of your project is directly related to the time it will take for us to formulate an estimate, so please take into consideration that this may take us two or three days. Every project is different and different projects may take longer to analyze for an estimate.

Once an estimate is delivered, all additional work, redesign on any level and "after thoughts" are considered additional work and will be billed accordingly.

Estimates are valid for 30 days.

Collecting Your Materials
In order to start the design process we need your TOC (Table of Contents).  We also will need ALL of your materials for the website such as:

  1. Text (page content)
  2. Photos

If we are building a web store for you we will need the following:

  1. Product descriptions, weight & cost
  2. Shipping methods and carriers
  3. Shipping rates – flat rate, scale or by weight (the latter is required by most carriers if you are going to allow shipping tracking)
  4. Tax rates
  5. What credit cards you accept, payment gateway account info if not using PayPal

Let’s Get Started!
At this point we may request kickoff meeting to clarify the design direction you want us to go.  Now we need your TOC and a good idea of content coming our way.  Now we start the actual design process.

Design Mock-ups and Sample Layouts
We upload a site mock-up to our testing server for your review.  This is the time we need your input.  You will have design revisions if needed (as per your proposal).  We’ll upload new mock-ups with changes for your approval.  Once you’re happy with the look we will have you sign an approval form.  After that, any design changes will be at an additional charge.

Building out the Site
Now we begin building the pages of your site based on the TOC and create a comprehensive navigation or menu system.  This is also when we:

  • work on the search engine optimization aspects of the site
  • If we are installing a content management software, such as Joomla, or a web store software such as Cube Cart, this is when we do that
  • Programming such as Forms, Flash, CGI, Java are now added to your site

Web Site Completion and Testing
Bracewell Web Works will test your site on different browsers, computers and connections.

Site goes "Live"
Your site is published for the world to see!  You can now start advertising your site, telling friends, business acquaintances and publish print material.

Maintenance
If you have signed on with a maintenance and support plan then it kicks into place now. If we have built a site for you with a CMS so you can maintain the content we will provide training (if that is part of our proposal). If your site does have a CMS installed, remember, it is software and will require periodic updates.

    2. How to you charge for your time?

We price our work by the project so please contact us for an exact price on your project. Beyond that we bill for our time at a competitive hourly rate.

    3. Do you charge for an initial consultation?

We are happy to discuss your project by phone for 30 minutes at no charge. Then, if we are on the same page we will need you to fill out our questionnaire that you'll find under Getting Started.

After we receive your filled out questionnaire we'll contact you to discuss it and your project in detail and provide a proposal to you at no charge.

    4. How much will my web site cost?

Costs are determined by how long it will take to complete the project and the complexity of the project. It similar to hiring a contractor to build your house. How big will it be? What upgrades will you want? You get the idea.

So we need you to fill out our questionnaire so we can give you a detailed estimate.

    5. What are your hours? Do you charge rush fees?

As much as we love our work and our clients, yes we do have regular hours and we do charge rush fees for work outside of those hours.

    11. What are some things I need to know in working with Bracewell Web Works?

Here are some great tips that will help you save us time and you money:

    • Be clear on what your goals are. Let us know what you want from your web site and have a good project plan in place. If we have to "plan your project" for you we will bill for our time.
    • Decide on content. Decide what content you want to present on your web site. We will be in charge of designing the how and where – the formatting and layout.
    • Deliver content to us in an organized and timely manner. Text should be finalized, proofread and ready for publication.  Graphics should be named carefully and sent in an orderly way. Photos should be named appropriately.
    • Offer clear, helpful feedback to design drafts. If you delay in responding to our requests for feedback your project will loose its place in our queue and we will reschedule it as soon as possible.

What some our clients have to say . . .

Our previous website provider was difficult to work with and failed to provide us what they promised. With outrageous bills and getting the run-around every time we called with questions we decided to seek out a website designer. Working with Michelle was easy as pie for she put together a wonderful website that has certainly caught the eye of the Colorado Springs area. She was always readily available to answer questions, make corrections and address our concerns during the set up process. We have had an increase in calls from customers that have visited our new website and would highly recommend Bracewell Web Works to any company looking to spruce up their current website or design a new one.

- Rob and Melody Gardner, Speedy Rooter, Inc.

Being a small business owner for the last 25 years, the yellow pages had been the target area to advertise.  With our technology changes over the last 5 years, it had become apparent that the consumer was using the internet more to search for goods and services. This was the new medium to advertise. So as a business consumer,  I hit the internet myself to search for a web designer that might fill those needs for us to create a new form of advertising.

I was concerned on my first search knowing nothing about web design.  I needed an honest company to represent us.  After spending a good amount of time going over different ads and phone calling, it came to Bracewell Web Works and found all I needed and was looking for.  I actually got a live person to talk with!!   I was informed about  aspects of web design and knew this company was one who would be able to provide a total package for us to be a continued success.

Bracewell Web Works is a down to earth company that provides great service and competitive pricing for all your particular needs. You are informed, given the knowledge and guided through the process to develop and create your own ad.  After our site went live, right away, we had new customers visiting and calling .   Bracewell Web Works gave us the security and confidence in knowing we would have a web design that would attract new customers and continue on with a successful business.   Thanks Bracewell Web Works for your excellent service.

- Sandy, Partner at Doc's Drain Cleaning

I contacted Michelle because I liked the look of the websites she has already done, but I chose to work with her because of her enthusiasm and marketing knowledge.  She is a joy to work with and I am thrilled with the website she created for my business. She gets back with me quickly when I have a question or issue which reflects her professionalism and dependability. I consider her a valuable asset in the success of my business and I will continue to use her for all of my future needs.

- Evelyn Steel Owner Nourish Organic Juice

When JPE first decided that we needed to update our very old and dated web-site. I thought it was going to be a very time consuming endeavor. To my surprise is it was less time consuming that I could of image. I gave Michelle some general guidelines and she was able to create what you see today! We are always getting complements on our web-site! Our customers see the site before they even see us.

- Ron Holland, C.O.O. JPE, Inc.

I met Michelle as a class instructor on Web Design for Small Businesses. It was so good I attended twice and then hired her for consultation work. She provided invaluable feedback and information that I could use to improve my site design and web presence. She is very professional, has a keen eye for design, and has a wealth of usable knowledge & experience with SEO. I will continue to use Michelle in the future!

- Laura Prather, Out West Gifts

I have worked with Michelle on two websites and she is awesome. She provides you with a detailed outline of what you will need to provide to her to make your website what you truly want. She advises you to look at other websites and tell her what you like and what you don't. She is very creative in looking at ways to get everything you want on your site for the money that you have available. I will definitely work with Michelle in the future if I have any other web design needs.

- Terry Zarsky, Business Services Librarian Pikes Peak Library

After two years of struggling with website development utilizing various web professionals, I came to realize that each web designer has their specialty, whether it be graphics, search engine optimization, shopping carts or the basic website problem solving. I finally found a professional that can do it all.

I discovered Michelle Bracewell, the owner of Bracewell Web Works, when she was the instructor for a website seminar through the Small Business Development Center in Colorado Springs. Michelle, not only fixed website glitches that others, could not, she designed a first class look for our website business.

Michelle began our business relationship by asking me to answer a 6-page questionnaire! My gosh, this was going to cost me money AND I had to work, too! Well, this exercise forced me to reexamine my marketing tactics, customer demographic and my business goals. I realized from the beginning, that a relationship with your web professional requires input, then, and throughout the process. In order to minimize costs to me, as a small business owner, Michelle occasionally asked me to perform certain tasks that she understood were within my limited level of expertise, while she concentrated on the tasks that I could not do.

After spending several thousand dollars and huge amounts of time, on prior website developers, I would encourage any business to utilize Bracewell Web Works. Michelle’s caliber of work and professionalism are well worth the money spent.

- Pam Koons, Owner, Rustic Ranch Accents

If you every need a reference I would be happy to talk to any prospective customer and let them know how pleased I am with Bracewell Web Works.

- Liz Ash, Owner, Ambience Florals

- Al McKay, COO, McAT Enterprises LLC

Michelle Bracewell, owner of Bracewell Web Works, has provided far more than a web hosting/development service to the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce. When we approached her about building a Web site for our small business community, www.springssmallbiz.com, Michelle embraced the challenge both professionally and personally. The quality of the site was a given...and it is superb. The "ownership" she displayed with the team developing this site was both refreshing and value added, and...it did not stop with bringing the site on-line.

Michelle remains a highly valued member of the oversight team charged to insure we are bringing the best possible product to market. We could not have asked for more!

Thanks for all you do!

- David P. Csintyan President & CEO Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce

- Bev Zimmerman, Office Manager, Triad Engineering, Inc.

O&D Manufacturing is very pleased with the website from Bracewell Web Works!

It is refreshing to work with a professional web development company. With so many web designers offering sub-par customer service, over-promising and under-performing, we appreciate the level of attention you gave to all of our questions. What I liked the most was the fact that everything was documented so well, and you delivered according to your published time schedule. In fact, you were ahead of schedule on several of the project benchmarks.

Thank you for your wonderful design suggestions, and making our new website so much better than our old one. We’re already quoting new business from people who are now finding us on the web; which was our #1 goal all along!

- Mike Browning, Sales Manager O & D Manufacturing

Michelle developed my first website for my consulting business and did a fantastic job - she not only helped me figure out what to do but provided great value to me by guiding me away from the things I didn't need but didn't know I didn't need. The added benefit from our working relationship is that we've become good friends in the process. If you are looking for a great resource for your business, I recommend Michelle!

Why choose Bracewell Web Works?

Our custom designed web sites are designed to make sense to your visitors.  A good web site is probably the single most cost effective form of marketing for a small business.  We specialize in compelling graphic design with an intuitive navigation that will engage your visitors and keep them coming back.  After all, a web site has only 10 seconds tops to engage your visitor or -click- and they're gone!  We'll make your 10 seconds count.

We’re here to help and educate you on marketing your business on the Web.  We can guide you through the whole process, from choosing a domain name, to planning the site, marketing it and maintaining it!

A site by BWW makes sense technologically

We use the latest coding standard and make sure your site looks the same on all the most popular browsers.  The web sites we build are “standards compliant”.

We believe in using “open source” programming and technologies.  This means the sites we build are not created with programming that is proprietary to us.  If we need to purchase software to use on your site, you get the software license.

We won't let you get stranded by “keeping” the code to important sections of YOUR web site or using outdated programming.

Innovative and cost-effective marketing solutions

While we’re known for our Internet Marketing ability, we also offer Corporate Identity Solutions.  So whatever your business goals may be, we can provide innovative and cost-effective marketing solutions for your business.

Remember, in the end, bad design will cost you more than good design - and great design is within your reach!

Saving money vs. making money

If you want to save money, you're probably better off going to our competition. But if you’re looking to make money with your marketing, then Bracewell Web Works is the right choice!
