"5 Social Media Monitoring Tools"

I've spent more and more time recently consulting with clients on social media strategies. A big component of any strategy is keeping an eye on what people are currently saying about your client and its products.

It's important to be able to pinpoint what's being said; the client has the opportunity to reward those with a positive comment (it could be as simple as a public thanks, or sending the person a gift, if appropriate) or respond to a criticism or potentially negative remark.

Here are a few free tools that I encourage people to try out for social media monitoring:

  • Google Alerts is the daily or real-time email alerts tool connected to Google indexing.
  • Blog Pulse is a great tool for searching the blogosphere and seeing what is currently trending.
  • Twitter Search has a handy RSS feed available for any search terms.
  • Omgili is a search tool for forums and email mailing lists.
  • Socialmention.com is a really useful tool as well.

There are plenty of other tools out there, but these are the ones I use when monitoring social media buzz. Try them out for yourself, and monitor your success.
